How to Install Google Pinyin on Ubuntu 14.04

I’ve been spending more and more time on Ubuntu and I’m not used to the Chinese keyboard that ships with Ubuntu. The keyboard on Android works pretty well so here’s a quick tutorial on how to install it on Ubuntu/Debian Linux.

sudo apt-get install fcitx-googlepinyin

im-config

Click through and select fcitx. Click through.

Restart your computer.

Click the keyboard in the top right corner.

Press Configure Current Input Method. Press + to add a new language. De-select “Only show current language”. Type in Google-Pinyin. Press OK. To switch between keyboards press Ctrl+Space
