计算机视觉和图像分析和处理的科学家和工程师薪资居然在硅谷最高能达到百万甚至数百万美元,而在加拿大地区这类职位平均年薪也高达13万加元。权威网站INDEED统计数据表明,这确实是事实。究竟是什么原因导致这些年计算机视觉科学家收到业界如此垂青?早年的计算机视觉研发人才曾经一路被爆为冷门专业啊?! 是什么原因促使了这样的突变? SITEM第二期公开讲座邀请张程博士,一位来自人工智能初创企业FAIMDATA的计算机视觉科学家为我们指点其中的迷津。 在一个半小时的讲座中,主讲人为听众带来了全新的计算机视觉的前沿科技体验。

Did you hear that the annual income for a computer vision scientist in silicon valley is over 1 million USD, while it is 130K CAD in Canada? Believe or not, it is true in terms of statistics from Indeed.com. Why a computer vision scientist or an expert in image processing and modeling can get such a high salary? Yet a computer vision researcher was so undesirable many years ago? What is the driven force for this big change? SITEM invited Dr. Cheng Zhang, a computer vision scientist at FAIMDATA, to disclose the answers for these questions.

当我们降临到这个五彩缤纷的世界,或者每当清晨开始激动人心的新的一天,视觉系统是最先带我们感知周围的环境的。人类的视觉系统是造物主精密的设计,这套系统可以瞬间从不同的侧面识别同一个人,也可以轻松识别各类不同的物体,这是一个三五岁的孩子都拥有的基本能力。那么计算机该如何感知这个精彩纷呈的世界?它能像人类视觉系统那样的分辨能力吗?如何设计模型或者算法使得计算机具备人类视觉系统的一些基本功能呢?带着这些问题,主讲人开门见山地介绍了人类视觉和计算机视觉的的异同。紧接着介绍了计算机视觉当下一些亮点应用场景,从人脸识别和目标检测,三维影像处理,美颜软件,自动驾驶汽车到虚拟现实和增强现实,计算机视觉应用产品无处不在。近年来,随着深度学习这一基于神经网络技术的广泛应用和飞速发展,计算机视觉这个古老的计算机科学分支,在新时代重新焕发出无限的魅力和生机。 深度神经网络及其各类变种,或多或少地模仿了人类大脑的基本结构和特征抽取原理,因此在图像识别,语音语义识别上取得了突破性进展,成为近年来炙手可热的人工智能研究和应用方向之一。为了使听众很好地理解深度学习技术在计算机视觉中的重要作用,主讲人用浅显易懂而又不乏理性数学公式的方式,为听众展示了机器学习的几个非常基本的概念以及神经网络的基本工作原理和模型原理。听众可以迅速跟随主讲人的思路进入神经网络如何进行图像分析的一些知识细节。随后,主讲人切入到如何构建一款符合业界要求的计算机视觉产品, 强调了任何成功的计算机视觉产品都离不开紧密高效的团队合作和精湛的技术,细致描述了如何从学术界向工业界的转变。在讲座的最后一部分,主讲人向听众介绍了计算机视觉和图像处理的常用工具和技术手段,包括并行计算框架,云计算框架和常用的开发工具和环境。

When we come to the world or open eyes to see the new wonderful day, it is our visual systems which bring us to the new day. God leverages very sophisticated way to design the visual system for human. A three-year old kid can easily identify the same person from different profiles, or can recognize different objects in very short time. Can computers perform like this? Dr. Zhang first presented the difference between human visual system and computer vision system. She introduced multiple applications of computer vision in facial and object recognition, 2-D or 3-D pose estimation, automated driving and VR,AR techniques, which brings the audiences into broad scope of cutting-edge technologies in computer vision.

In the second part, the speaker described the basic regression and classification, which are the most basic tasks a machine learning work will perform. She disclosed that with the advance of deep learning techniques, computer vision becomes the most promising fields for AI to business applications. To help audiences understand deep learning better, the speaker listed some neural network architectures with minor math.

In the third part, the speaker described the practical tools used in industrial development for computer vision, including GPE, CUDA and parallel computing, Python virtualenv, Google cloud computing overview and many other IDEs.
