4个office用法别搞错

一个外籍朋友请kevin帮忙介绍客户，一番谈话之后，外籍朋友对他说：“I count on your good offices.”

kevin非常纳闷，难道他想和公司合作吗？

这里的office和办公室无关，注意，这里的offices是加了“Ｓ”的复数。

I count on your good offices.

错误：我想和你的公司合作。

正确：我指望你的帮忙。

Office的意思很多，在口语中，如果前面加上形容词good，并且加上“s”变成复数，就有了「服务、帮忙」的意思。英文字典里的解释：the influence or power that someone has and can use to help others. （可以用来帮助他人的影响力或力量）

再来看一个例句：

I got the job through the good offices of a friend.我透过朋友的帮忙找到这份工作。

再来看几个很容易搞错的office用法：

run for office

错误：跑去办公室

正确：投入竞选

这里的office指的是职位，经常是重要、有权有势的职位，人才要run for，跑着过去。

再看一例：

Bob plans to run for office next year. Bob准备明年参选。

理解 run for office 的意思后，就不难理解 take office 是就职：

The President takes office two months after the election. 总统于选后两个月就职。

in office

错误：在办公室

正确：任职、执政

“In office”是指在位、掌权，比较抽象，和“in the office”（在办公室里）这个具象的意思不同。

Some people think she has been in office for too long. 有人觉得她在位太久了。

既然 in office 是掌权，也就有out of office，意思是「不在位」：

The Socialist Party has been out of office for almost ten years.社会党在野已经将近10年了。

land-office business

错误：办公室房产业务

正确：大生意，好买卖

一般我们说的 land office 是土地局，但 land-office business 是延伸的意思，和土地没有关系，指短期内涌进大量业务。

We always do a land-office business at this time of year. 每年的这个时候我们总是生意很多。
