Artificial intelligence ruled and tech giants were out in force at CES

文章导读：The Consumer Electronics Show即国际消费类电子产品展览会，由美国电子消费品制造商协会（简称CEA）主办，旨在促进尖端电子技术和现代生活的紧密结合。每年一月在世界著名赌城——拉斯维加斯举办，是世界上最大、影响最为广泛的消费类电子技术年展，也是全球最大的消费技术产业盛会。

All things AI作为文章题目，首先点出了文章的主要内容——这次的CES大会上，一切皆是人工智能，同时用了头韵(Alliteration)的修辞。

引言：Artificial intelligenceruledand tech giantswere out in forceat CES，这句话的意思就是，人工智能占据了CES的展台，大量科技巨头参展。这里的rule做动词：那就是to be the most powerful thing in a group，在这里我们可以理解成统治，支配一切，整句话我们可以理解为人工智能占据了大部分CES的展台。

be out in force的意思可以理解为：If people are out in force, they are present somewhere in large numbers. 那么tech giantswere out in forceat CES就是科技巨头大量涌现于CES展览之中。

WHEN the electronics industry meets in Las Vegas at CES, its main trade show, buzzwords abound.But rarely has one been as pervasive as this week. “Artificial intelligence” or variations on the theme (“AI-driven”, “AI-powered” and so on) were slapped across most new products—although often the artificial overcame the intelligence.

电子行业参展拉斯维加斯CES——业内主要贸易展会——流行热词比比皆是。但很少有一个词能像本周那个词汇一样那么热门。几乎所有的新产品都被打上了“人工智能”或人工智能的变体（“AI驱动”、“AI动力”等）的标记，尽管很多时候，“人工”战胜了“智能”。

【注意】buzzword 的英文解释中：有一个限定范围——in a particular field，强调是某一专业领域的时髦词汇。比如，我们可以说“人工智能”是一个 buzzword, 但不能说“蓝瘦香菇”是 buzzword. 现在我们可以说“人工智能”“增强现实”“混合现实”“区块链”是buzzwords.

【搭配】abound with / in sth

在国民生活中军队的影响无处不在

She lives witha pervasive sense of guilt.

她生活在深深的愧疚之中。

•variationnoun.a difference between similar things, or a change from the usual amount or form of something〔相似物体之间的〕差异;〔数量或形式的〕变化，变动:

白面包其实只是法式面包的一种变化形式。

这些小地毯质量的差异

反应各不相同。

【注意】文中的"AI-driven"和"AI-powered"就是人工智能的变体，本质上是人工智能，只不过名字有了一些变化。

•slapverb.

slap的动词意思很多，比如：掌掴，用力放置，撞击拍击。这些词义都有一个共同点——“猛烈”的隐含概念，体会猛扇耳光是如何引申为用力放置。

这里更重要的是slap后面搭配的介词across, 表示遍布，那我们就能理解 AI slap across 的意思是人工智能的广泛应用，要体会这个单词表达的AI的应用来的是非常猛烈的那种语境。

【写作积累】

•Butrarelyhas one been as pervasive as this week.

但很少有一个词能像本周那个词汇一样那么热门。

▪我们通过这一句话来看一下倒装句的写法。

在正式文体中，never, seldom, rarely, little, hardly, scarcely, no sooner, no longer, nowhere等含有否定意义的副词若位于句首，则其后要用部分倒装：

»I shall never forgive him. 我永远不会宽恕他。

倒装后：Never shall I forgive him.

»He seldom goes out for dinner.他很少出去吃饭。

倒装后：Seldom does he go out for dinner.

» She hardly has time to listen to music.她几乎没时间听音乐。

倒装后：Hardly does she have time to listen to music.

»He little realizes how important this meeting is。他不甚明白这个会议的重要性。

倒装后：Little does he realize how important this meeting is.

»We had no sooner reached the airport than the plane took off.我们刚到机场,飞机就起飞了。

倒装后：No sooner had we reached the airport than the plane took off.

外刊中也经常使用倒装：

»Rarelyhave creditors demanded so little insurance against default, even on the riskiest“junk” bonds.

贷方要求极低的违约保险，即使是风险最大的“垃圾”债券，这在历史上较为罕见。

»Norare social media alone in their power to polarise—just look at cable TV and talkradio.

使选民分化的不仅仅只有社交媒体，还有有线电视以及电台。

Look into it, like the Wicked Queen in Snow White, and instead of being told you are the fairest, your data profile appears on the glass.It displays weight (from an interactivescale), urine-test results(from a sensor on a connected lavatory) and other health-related things.

中国大型家电制造商‘海尔’在其展台上摆放了一个交互式浴镜，参观者对此甚为惊

奇。照一照镜子，像《白雪公主》里的巫后，镜子虽然不会告诉你谁是世界上最漂亮的女人，但是会显示出你的基本资料。它会展示出你的体重（数据来自交互秤）、尿检结果（来自联网马桶的传感器）和其他健康相关的数据。
