This course is designed for young children to learn the fundamentals of robotics and programming. Utilizing the most advanced educational tools developed in the Silicon Valley, including Dash & Dot, Beebot, and Sphero, students will come to understand technology as a tool to solve problems and create useful things.

Students practice giving commands to the robots in class by working on puzzles and projects. Basic concepts in mathematics and programming, such as time, speed and conditionals, will also be taught during class. Through the intuitive interface of their iPads, they are introduced to block programming to control the robots, as well as create small animations and games on their screen. By the end of the course, our students would have moved beyond playing with their devices, and begin to see them as tools for a creative purpose.

Tickle:互联世界的可视化编程Visual Programming for The Connected World

The Tickle course aims to equip young curious minds with computer programming concepts as well as its application in robotics. Students explore programming concepts using robotics on the iPad app, Tickle. Similar to other iPad based coding apps such as Hopscotch and ScratchJr, Tickle allows the creation of small programs using color coded blocks, and allows interaction of onscreen characters and connected robots.

Students start with basic computing commands including movements, looks and sounds, then integrate their computing commands with robots such as Sphero and Dash. The course incorporates sensors and motions of robots to deepen students’ understanding on essential computing concepts including input/output and sequences.

Kids and teens of this generation are all 3D natives. From Minecraft to 3D movies, children are surrounded by 3D images and animation from a young age. Spatial thinking capabilities are a critical component of a child’s development.

This course is designed to introduce 3D modeling and printing techniques to the 3D natives. Specifically catered to beginners, we start with an introduction of 3D modeling, navigating through the interface of TinkerCad, a beginner friendly 3D modeling software. The course then covers 3D design elements and principles, dissects how 3D printer works, and moves into modeling more complex structures. The course finishes with a complete 3D product which is printed out for kids to take home.
